Critique
I would like to thank the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge the Japanese Chin Club’s Championship Show. I thoroughly enjoyed my day. I must also thank my steward and the exhibitors for the lovely entry and accepting my decisions so sportingly. My only concern were heads. Quite a few were small in comparison to the size of the dog, skulls should be broad and many lacked a brow. However, many were balanced and good presentation was high.
Baby Puppy B(5) 1: Bradley’s Sharlarna Faking It, a very promising b/w baby, smart and balanced with a lovely unexaggerated head, pleasing eyes, open nostrils, mod neck, straight forelegs, cobby in body with a firm level topline, good turn of stifle, stylish mover.
2: Burns’ Adreeam Tootie Frootie, very raw b/w baby, very pretty headed, could do with a tad more white in corner of eyes, open nostril with good mouth, balanced with level topline, strong fine bone with good angulation and tailset. Plaiting today on hind movement.
3: Newbery’s Sharlarna Madam Rouge for Hermoangel NAF TAF
Veteran D(2)1: Burden’s Sangria Warlord, lovely marked b/w with broad head, well cushioned muzzle, strong fine bone, smart and compact, hare feet, level back, looked and moved with good reach.
Minor Puppy D(3)1: Swanston’s Capevidles I am Maximus, lightly marked b/w, I liked his head, broad with brow, well cushioned, level topline, would like him a tad shorter to balance, front needs to firm up, well presented.
Puppy D(1): Rooney & Green’s Jaschin Paw Star, b/w of good type and quality, head is broadening, a full eye with correct white in inner corners, bone dainty but strong, hare feet, level topline and well balanced, ideally need a bit more covering on his body, but a tricky age, long straight silky coat, moved with good reach. BPIS.
Junior D(5)1: Van de Burgt, Strange & Hampton’s Norvanik Kandi Crush, what a lovely young dog this is, possesses a gorgeous broad head with brow, open nostrils with good finish of mouth, mod neck, sound in front with strong dainty fine bone, so well balanced with his cobby body and firm level topline, moved well with reach. Must get his act together as this dog should gain his title. RCC.
2: Bailey’s Bentwood Wagamappa Suni at Aldoricka, a lovely type male with a good head and correct eyes, firm front, level back and high set tail, quality coat nicely marked, the winner was a tad shorter, super movement.
3: Cayton’s Aleemai Mr Brightside
Yearling D(1)1: Tong’s Cranvarl The Red King at Jakconas, top quality r/w mature boy with a fairly large head, mod broad skull with rounded brow, detailed face with lovely cushioning, correct eyes, so well balanced with level topline, good reach with high set tail, lovely well prepared silky straight coat.
Novice D(1)1: Flynn’s Sharlana Its All About Me at Linjato, a very immature b/w but I liked his overall quality. Good head, ideally could have been a little broader, lovely eyes and pigment, cushioned muzzle, well balanced with a lovely silky well presented coat, lovely marked, needs to settle as he is full of himself.
Post Grad D(3)1: Kannangara’s Sangria PS I Love You, lots to like about this b/w, his head was fairly broad with good brow, lovely eyes with ideal muzzle, firm body with level topline, well marked, not in full coat but quality texture, good angulation and moved well.
2: Swanston’s Craimose Classy Tiger, broad in skull with good size and shape, his eyes were a little full for me and a tad too much white, looked good in profile, front needs to settle with little reach, lovely condition.
3: Speight & Moorcott’s Bonniroy Yoto
Mid Limit D(1)1: Speight & Moorcott’s Yoshiki Aka, r/w with pleasing head, skull broad with brow, good in front with fine dainty bone, hare feet, level back but could be a tad shorter, tended to toe in in front movement today.
Limit D(4)1: Rooney & Green’s Jaschin Working Man I Am, b/w of ideal size and shape, ideally would prefer a broader skull, quality facial features, especially his eyes, moderate neck with good front and hare feet, liked his body and moved stylishly.
2: Thomas’s Threadgold Dan Dare at Javalcy, this b/w has a very nice head, fairly broad with a brow, not the darkest of eyes, stronger bone and not the balance of the winner and he needed to settle in front today.
Open D(3)1: Burns & Hampton’s Sleepyhollow Vincent, this b/w boy is exactly a type I love to see. I loved his size and compactness, his head is ideal in size and shape, ideally a slightly larger eye, but what a well cushioned muzzle, moderate neck which was carried proud on the move, level topline with a high set plumed tail. He moved with good reach with firm hind movement. In full coat which was profuse, long and silky. I could not deny him the CC & BIS.
2: Blair’s Sharlarna’s Chaos at Bellflows, b/w of good type, fairly broad skull which was slightly rounded, good eyes, more generous in muzzle to what I prefer, good in front, level topline, not as compact as 1, nicely marked with quality coat texture, stylish mover.
Champion D(4)1: Lindsay’s Ch. Cranvarl Roger at Anjuli, r/w with a quality head of good size and shape. I particularly liked his well cushioned muzzle, moderate neck, good front, wide in chest, level topline with a well covered body, very well balanced although bigger than I usually like. He is a very honest dog and difficult to fault his sound outgoing movement. Coat in excellent order.
2: Thomas’s Ch. Javalcy The Great Mikado, a b/w I have often admired and I have awarded him a RCC. Today, he was unsettled in this hall. I really like his head, full of quality, size, shape, eyes and cushioning of muzzle. In profile standing, he looked smart and compact, quality coat texture and condition.
3: Quinn’s Ch. Sharlarna Swindler JW
Spec Nov R/W D/B(1)1: Cushing’s Spiritisle Queen of Hearts, r/w feminine girl, quite raw and immature, pleasing front with hare feet, level topline, good rear angulation, not in the best of coat today and tended to fly her ears.
Miss EM Tovey Mem Spec Open R/W D/B(3) 1: Pott’s Adreeam Highland Chincess, ). Nice headed r/w, broad in skull, with dark eyes and sufficient amount of white, very pleasing to go over, level topline with high tailset, really well balanced and moved with reach with a firm rear, nicely presented coat.
2: Cushing’s Ennistar’s Niagara at Spiritisle(IMP RUS), 5 year old looking in good condition, pleasing head with correct eyes, nice front with hare feet, level back, short and balanced, moved ok.
3: Speight & Moorcott’s Yoshiki Aka
Eileen Crawford Mem Special Open D/B(2)1: Speight & Moorcott’s Yoshiki Aka, repeat
2: Speight & Moorcott’s Bonniroy Yanagi, a nice type with lovely quality head, broad with quality eyes, in good order, body well covered, level topline, silky coat, good angulation, very unhappy today with tail down.
Veteran B(3)1: Rooney & Green’s Ch. Swifthocks Paws For Thought JW, a b/w from the top drawer, not only top quality but a proven dam of high quality type chins. I have awarded her a RCC in the past and certainly deserved to win today. Beautiful head with quality features, perfect size and shape with level toplines. Lovely body and she can still show the youngsters how to walk. BVIS.
2: Blair’s Bellflows Honey Bee Lux/Ir JCH, pretty b/w with lovely head and eyes, good in front with hare feet, level back, nicely marked, really enjoyed her day out.
3: Potts Rakuchin Serenade
Min Puppy B(2)1: Baranzeck’s Incandescense, a very promising smart b/w, so feminine with a pretty head, broad in skull with desired brow, perfect eyes, open nostrils, moderate neck with fine dainty strong bone. I loved her in profile, compact with level topline and high set tail. Nicely marked and well presented coat. I liked her a lot and one to watch.
2: Cushing’s Alstella Alexi of Spiritisle, another pretty headed baby, mouth needs to settle, good in front, level back, shapely, not the coat texture yet.
Puppy B(2)1: Crane’s Cranvarl Eliza Doolittle, r/w of 11 months, quite mature, quality head with large dark round eyes, set well apart, moderate neck, firm front with hare feet, lovely to handle and in very good order, level back, ideally prefer a tad shorter, moved with reach, lovely breed type.
2: Newbery’s Sharlarna Lady Danger for Hermosoangel, very feminine and so different in type to winner, pretty head, much more refined, nicely marked, needs to body up and gain more confidence.
Junior B(8)1: Oatridge, Grogan & Irvine’s Dalehouse Royal Secret, top quality b/w of outstanding breed type, broad in skull with brow, cushioned muzzle, moderate neck, body in good condition, compact with level topline and high tailset, good bend of stifle, such a stylish mover with good reach, although not in full coat, I could not deny her the CC, which I understand is her 3rd. Congratulations.
2: Van de Burgt & Strange’s Norvanik Candy Kisses, another top quality youngster of a type I understand and love. A quality head with gorgeous eyes, very similar in shape as 1, lovely to handle, perfect reach, well conditioned coat, I predict a good future for this pretty girl.
3: Lindsay’s Somergemz I Own Her at Anjuli
Yearling B(1)1: Bradley’s Sharlarna’s All Eyes On Me, a very smart b/w with a feminine head, ideally marked, fairly broad in skull, open nostrils with good mouth, loved her balanced body, compact with high tail set, good rear angulation, not in her best clothes, but had nothing to hide, a smart mover, liked her a lot.
Novice B(2)1: Cushing’s Spiritisle Lil Miss Muffet, lightly marked r/w, pleasing head although flying her ears today, looked good in outline, compact with a level topline, hare feet, well bodied, moved OK.
2: Speight & Moorcott’s Bonniroy Yazana, b/w broad in skull and good shape, lovely eyes, well bodied, heavier marked, just refused to show today.
Post Grad B(3)1: Pott’s Adreeam Highland Chincess, repeat
2: Cushing’s Spiritisle Queen of Hearts, repeat
3: Cushing’s Spiritisle Fairy Magic
Mid Limit B(2)1: Lindley’s Sharlarna Conchita for Meglind, a quality r/w with a fairly broad skull, lacking a tad brow, very honest type who was lovely to go over on the table, level topline, hare feet, high tailset well plumed, moved with reach, a lovely type.
Limit B(5)1: Lindsay’s Jaschin Who’d Thought at Anjuli, lovely headed r/w, broad skull with desired brow, solid in body for size, strong dainty bone, level back, good bend of stifle, moved with reach, a type I like, excellent presentation.
2: Bradley’s Sharlarna Vivavcious, b/w who is very feminine in head which was quality, a nice overall size and balance, firm front with smart movement both directions.
3: Cushing’s Angel Delight
Open B(5)1: Crane’s Cranvarls Macey Grey JW, r/w with a quality head, good brow and nose placement, moderate neck, very solid in body, level topline with high tailset, good angulation, lightly marked quality coat texture, smart mover, exceptional r/w chins today.
2: Cayton’s Sharlarna Temptress, quality feminine b/w with dark eyes and pigment, nose a little bit finished for me, compact in body with level topline, in full coat, nicely marked which was very well presented.
3: Blair’s Bellflows Lunar Eclipse
Champion B(2)1: Quinn’s Ch. Sharlarna Eye Candy, a really quality b/w of perfect size and shape, I liked her head, not overdone in anyway, good features with open nostrils, moderate neck, lovely body for size with a level back. A very worthy champion with such a perfect gleaming silky coat. RCC.
2: Rooney & Green’s Ch. Jaschin Paws For Applause, I have always admired this b/w, she has so many qualities in her head with good cushioning, loved her standing in profile, compact, she just needed a bit more covering on her body today.
Brace(2)1: Mrs G Blair, moved around the ring like little troopers.
2: G & J Speight, they both enjoyed themselves.
