Critique
Thank you to the Society for giving me the opportunity to judge at their prestigious all breed show. The weather was glorious and the showground pristine, all adding to the enjoyment of the day. Thank you to the exhibitors who brought their lovely dogs under me and received my decisions with great sportsmanship, applause and even cheers for the CC winners. I was very pleased with all my principal winners who showed their socks off in the respective groups.
Veteran dog. 3/0 A lovely class, all shown in tiptop condition a credit to their owners. 1. Schemel’s Chinart Yuunagi 7yr old B/W in good coat of correct texture. He presents a typically chin outline when stood which he maintains on the move. Elegant and aristocratic describes his head and expression showing enough white of eye. Moved out and back soundly. Well deserved BVIB & Later was awarded Veteran Group 2
2. Mcfarlane’s Myojo Morgan ShCM 8yr old B/W. Slightly larger boy with good bone. Masculine head carried proudly. Moved very well with good drive. Good spring of rib and in good coat and condition. Just lost out to the elegance of one.

Minor Puppy Dog 1/0 1. Thomas’s Threadgold Dan Dare at Javalcy. 7mth old B/W. Although stood alone in the class he was a worthy winner. A puppy with a lot of promise. He stood square with a level top line which he maintained on the move. Lovely Cushioning set off his well placed nose and dark eye with the correct expression. Coat of correct silky texture. All in all a lot to like. Pleased to award him BPIB

Junior Dog 3/2 1. Lindsay’s Cranvarl Roger at Anjuli.14mth old R/W. I have watched this boy from a baby puppy and he didn’t disappoint in any way. He is elegant in outline and on the move flows around the ring. In tip top condition with a coat of lovely silky texture that will just get better with maturity he is joy to go over. Square, with enough bone and lovely hare feet. Head carried proudly atop a lovely arched neck with correct attributes of cushioning and expression he demanded attention. Will follow his career with interest. DCC & BOB

Novice Dog 1 1. Good’s Sleepyhollow Ricardo.31/2yr old B/W. Moderately large head with well feathered ears. In good coat and condition. Square in outline with good bone and firm top line. Moved ok. Would have liked a little more width behind. Awarded BSBiB

Post Graduate Dog.3/0 1. Vincent’s Cholas Yasu at Yama. 21/2 yr old B/W. Cobby and Square in outline which he maintained when moving. Masculine looking head with good cushioning and just enough white of eye to give the correct expression. Good solid condition with good bone topped off with a profuse coat.
2. Schemel’s Bentwood Candide. 21/2 yr old B/W. This boy was both dainty and elegant but with enough substance to fulfill the cobbiness called for in the standard. He has a beautiful head with gentle curves, good cushioning and dark expressive eyes. Moved with style. But was not cooperating with his handler today so just not showing to advantage.

Limit Dog 5/2 1. Hampton, Vine & Strange’s Sleepyhollow Love me Sibbai. 21/2yr old B/W. Another I have watched with interest from the ring side. Whilst he is of smaller cast he fulfils the requirement of the standard for a cobby dog with enough bone all topped off with a coat of correct texture in beautiful condition. His head is beautiful with a softness of expression, created with dark round eyes with enough white, atop lovely cushioning and well placed nose. Well feathered ears set on well complete the picture. Moved soundly and was sympathetically handled to get the best from him. Was considered for high honours which I am sure will come.
2. Macfarlane’s Jesandakai koi no Yokan 3 yr old B/W.Square cobby boy with a profuse coat of the correct texture. Pleasing head with good pigmentation to nose and dark eye. Evenly marked with well set profusely feathered ears. Moved out with drive and maintained his shape on the go round.

Open Dog 4 1. Thomas’s Javalcy The Great Mikado. 4yr old B/W Mature dog in glorious coat. Moved out with drive and purpose making a lovely picture as he sailed around the ring. A typical Chin head carried proudly on a good reach of neck leading into a firm level top line. He carries his finely plumed tail well over his back. A worthy Champion, who pushed hard for the top spot, but was pleased to award him the RDCC
2. Young’s Ch. Sharlarna’s Magician 51/2yrs B/W Another beautiful example of the breed with many of the attributes of one. Presented in superb condition he fulfilled all that you would want from another very worthy champion from his lovely head to the tips of his gorgeous hair feet. They really made my job pleasantly difficult. But in splitting hairs one just won out on expression.

Special Beginners Dog or Bitch 1 1. Good’s Sleepyhollow Ricardo (see Novice Dog) V

Veteran Bitch 1 1. Vincent’s Yama Paper Lace. 81/2yr old B/W. Belying her age and in beautiful condition this mature lady strutted her stuff. Moved well out and back and maintained her outline all the time. In full coat of silky texture with profuse feathering. Typical Chin head with lovely cushioning giving the correct profile. We are indeed fortunate to have such wonderful veterans demonstrating the health of the breed.

Minor Puppy Bitch 2 1. Quinn’s Sharlarna Eye Candy TAF 6mth old B/W Raw puppy but with so much potential, which I’m sure this kennel will help her fulfill. I will follow her career with interest. Brimming with confidence she moved with style even when distracted by a bee. Her head is a delight with good cushioning and not overdone astonished expression. Square in outline with a firm top line and standing four square she has all the attributes needed for a bright future. 2. Cushing’s Spiritisle Angel Delight 8mth old L/W slightly longer cast than one, coat coming in nicely of correct texture. Level top line with closely carried tail. Needs to settle and tighten up on the move. Nice hare feet. Moved true out and back.

Puppy Bitch 2/1 1. Calvert’s Jaschin Fendi with Somergemz. 9mth old B/W lovely bitch of good proportions. Very pretty feminine head with the desired look of astonishment, correctly placed ears with feathering starting to come in, frame the well cushioned face. Nice reach of neck leads in to a level top line and well set tail. Moved with an easy flow around the ring. BPB

Junior Bitch 2 1. Crane’s Cranvarl Macey Grey 14mth old R/W round dark eyes with correct expression, well placed nose and nicely cushioned cheek. Moderate reach of neck and level top line which she held on the move. Well feathered tail carried over her back. Moved with confidence and precision which won her the class over her litter sister. 2. Tong & Crane’s Cranvarl Maude 14mth old R/W many of the same attributes as one. Of slightly smaller stature than her litter mate with a Pretty feminine head with lovely expression. It was a close decision but she lacked a little of the confidence of one. I am sure this will come with sympathetic handling.

Yearling Bitch 2/1 1. Cushing’s Kin Kohana of Spiritisle 19mth old R/W of good rich colour nicely marked. Pleasing head and carrying a good coat of silky texture. Good round eye and well feathered correctly set ears. Larger size bitch who was not co operating with her handler today and not really enjoying her show, was reluctant to move but showed enough to assess. Have seen her show better.

Novice Bitch 3/2 1. Cushing’s Ennistar’s Niagara at Spiritisle. 3yr old R/W nice sable bitch with a lovely head of pleasing proportion. Moderate neck leading to level top line and feathered tail carried well. Good turn of stifle and lovely hair feet. A little out of coat today but showed with confidence.

Post Graduate Bitch. 7/1 A lovely class of girls that made me really think about my placings. 1. Mountcastle & Mountcastle’s Holmchin Miss Conduct. 4yr old B/W who has been lightly shown. Beautiful head with the classic reverse 3 profile. Dark eyes with just a little white showing to give the correct expression. Well set ears. Nice reach of neck carried the head proudly. Level top line and well set tail. Moved with style and ease. 2. Rooney & Green’s Jaschin Paws for Applause 22mth B/W aptly named this little bitch could pause for applause. Really splitting hairs between these two bitches. Pretty feminine head with lovely curves and cushioning. Level top line and nice tail set. In good condition throughout as we expect from this kennel. Moved out well just not the style of one today.

Limit Bitch 1 1. Hubble & Summerbell’s Dabrives Silver Dynasty. 4yr old B/W Mature honest Bitch who I have watched from the ringside. Of good size and shape with a silky coat she stands four square and doesnt disappoint on the move. Broad rounded head with a round eye displaying enough white to give the required look of astonishment. Well cushioned cheeks and a nice nose support the expression. Level top line and good spring of rib. Had no hesitation in awarding her the RCC today.

Open Bitch 3 1. Rooney & Green’s Ch. Jaschin First Edition 21/2 yr old B/W who just says CHIN. Head of beautiful proportion and harmony all comes together to give the correct expression of astonishment, intelligence and a touch of aristocratic poise. Framed with well set and feathered ears. Enough neck, well laid shoulders, level top line, well set and profusely feathered tail atop well boned and muscled legs creating the drive needed to move around the ring with easy elegance. A worthy Champion and CC winner. 2. Quinn’s Ch. Harlouville Uptown Girl JW. 3 yr old B/W another worthy Champion in her prime, who also has breed type in spades. Classic head with dark expressive eyes, good cushioning setting off the well placed nose. In tip top condition with pristine coat of the correct silky texture. Lovely feathering and hare feet. Really a close call for top honours.
