I firmly believe that the correct structure of a Chin is as an important part of the type as the whites of its eyes. To move correctly with a short back is difficult unless every structure is both correct and balanced.  Chins need this essential breed feature to be able to retain the dainty refined look and appearance. I really enjoyed the opportunity to judge the Chins thank you all for bringing your dogs. I’m sorry this took some while to produce my critique, a period of illness and hospital visits following the show has made it difficult to finish.

Two nice dogs in this class, the first placed dog had better construction than the second, with equal length of shoulder and upper arm, well set on the chest, long in rib and short in loin, giving characteristic cobby appearance. Well set croup, moved well over the ground. Sweet expression, overall appearance elegant athletic. .

Nice dog with appealing expression, dark eye, narrower in chest than 1, with longer loin, covered the ground well.

This was a super dog, an elegant showman. Presented in excellent coat and well groomed. Appealing expression with whites of eyes giving the characteristic look of astonishment. Darkly pigmented nose and lips. A joy to watch move round the ring. Constructed with correct front, equal upper arm and shoulders, balanced by well-constructed rear with correctly laid croup, broad in chest, short in loin, therefore cobby. Very good ring presence, at one with his owner.  In selecting the CC winner I preferred this dogs overall type and shape to the RCC winner. Please to see him win 2nd in the Toy group on the day. In selecting this dog as BOB I preferred his very dark pigments to the face and nose, well developed nostrils and just that extra wow factor both on the move and when standing.

Well-constructed, with correct front, short in back and loin, just preferred the movement of 1, but it could have been this dogs ability to cope with the length of grass and uneven ring.

This is a most appealing dog, his front is constructed with equal length of shoulder and upper arm, this is set back on a broad chest to allow free flowing movement. He has a short back, well sprung rib with short compact loin, giving the required cobby appearance.  Moved with drive and vigour. Good reach and excellent side gate without any overreaching, difficult to achieve in a correctly cobby dog unless all elements are right and in harmony. Cheeky appealing expression.    Res Dog CC

 Many of the dogs in this class were excellently constructed, had good type and were therefore only split by small differences on breed points. The first was a different type to the second and third, the fourth different again.

So first place winner was short backed, with well sprung rib, shoulders and upper arm of equal length and set on the chest to allow correct movement with forward drive and no overreaching. He has a square croup, giving parallel hocks when viewed on the move. Compact appealing dog, excellent movement, maintained an enthusiastic action around the ring. Appealing expression, dark eye and well pigmented. I preferred the face of this dog to the second and third placed dog, having the correct cushioning, wide under jaw.
2nd: 585 ALLCOCK MBE Mr A Ch Sleepyhollow Robson JW Sh.CM 

Equally well constructed with the correct front and short cobby back, moved with drive, and just preferred the expression and movement of first placed dog.

This is an excellent dog, well-constructed and moved with drive, shown in good coat, with the same comments as 2 ie preferred the expression and movement of first placed dog, and the ring presence and movement on the long grass of 2nd over the 3rd.
