I thoroughly enjoyed my day judging Japanese Chins, a breed I have owned since 1975, after Mrs Rita Evans (Valevan) gave me my first puppy. Valevan Tricki Woo at Amantra. Thanks to the Crufts Committee for inviting me to judge, and thanks to the exhibitors for a great entry. I was pleased with both my line ups; I found what I was looking for. On the whole I thought the depth of quality was slightly higher in the bitches.

VD (4). 1. Pochinka Edward Bear At Aldorika. 11 year old presented in excellent condition. Not showing his age at all. Pleasing head, bright eyes, no grey hairs! Fine bone, cobby body, still moving soundly around the ring. A credit to his owner. Best Veteran. 2. Sleepyhollow Knight And Day At Dunline Jw Shcm. Another nice boy looking well for his age. But showing a few grey hairs. Well bodied & presented. Fine bone, nice head with dark eyes. Moved out soundly. 3. Nisyros Frank Chinatra. 8 year old boy of nice type. Good round eye with bright expression. Moved out holding his topline, well coated & presented. 

MPD (2). 1. Linjato Issey Miyake. My notes say both very similar & I see they are litter brothers. Well presented in lovely coat & condition, fine bone, cat feet. Round dark eyes, moved out happily & well. 2. Linjato Kanjirou. Not in as good a coat as 1, a slight wave to coat. Both moving well holding their topline, but for me on both I would prefer a shorter muzzle & more cushioning. 

PD (4). 1. Sharlarna Valentino At Threadgold. Won this class on his lovely type. Lovely head, well cushioned muzzle. Excellent surprised eye. Presented in full coat, moved out well holding his topline. Happy temperament. BPD. 2. Tillashby Russian Infusion At Sharlarna. Smart moving dog with fine bone. Well presented in lovely coat. Dark eyes with surprised expression. Not the cushioning in head of 1 & needs a little more body weight. 3. Bellflows Wee Toshi. Smaller boy but not as balanced as 1 & 2. A little short in leg. Nice eye, well coated, not happy today. Dropping his tail. 

JD (10, 1) 1. Lionheart Mi Marobashi. Won this class on his movement and presentation. Pleasing head with surprised eye (but could be a shade darker) sound movement both ways, a lovely cobby body under his well-presented full coat. 2. Dzhunko Gin De Imperium Auri At Javalcy. Cobby b/w, lovely body & size. Nice dark eye but not as surprised as 1. Fine bone, cat feet, and sound mover. 3. Sharlarna Elvis At Threadgold Jw. B/W with well cushioned muzzle, pleasing head with nice surprised eye. Lovely type, a little longer cast than above. A bit reluctant to move today.

YD (8). 1. Sharlarna's Magician. Dog of nice size with fine bone. Moved soundly around the ring, holding a firm topline. Well presented in good coat, well bodied. Pleasing head with nice round surprised eye. 2. Glendyke Step Out In Style. Dog of similar type. Dark eyes, well cushioned muzzle, moved out well around the ring. Needs a bit more body to complete picture. 3. Godheim Nashville At Jalindri.  Dog with a lovely head & expression, lovely dark surprised eyes. Moved out soundly, but longer cast than 1 & 2.  

PGD (11, 2) 1. Omikudzi Don Juan At Sharlarna. R/W of lovely size with fine bone. Presented in excellent coat and condition. Lovely head with well cushioned muzzle, dark eyes with surprised expression. Moved out soundly with a firm topline & well set tail. RCC. 2. Sangria Pamojill Private Eye. Dog of similar size, lovely type, presented in nice coat. Moved well around the ring. Nice head with round dark eyes, not as surprised as 1. 3. Tillashby Arubato. Pretty headed dog with lovely eye. Cobby body, presented in excellent coat and condition. A sound mover, a little larger than 1 & 2.

LD  (18, 3) 1. Sangria Midorchi Motivation. B/W of nice size well made with good front & width of chest. Moved soundly both ways. Well ribbed & bodied. Typical head with round surprised eye, well cushioned muzzle, well presented in good coat, happy temperament. 2. Sharlarna The Tempest At Amronchi. Nice sized boy, moved out well with good head carriage & firm topline. Nice front, pleasing head with good eyes. Presented in full coat, but a touch wavy today. 3. Sangria War Lord. Well-handled b/w of nice size. Pleasing head and expression well cushioned muzzle. Lovely mover around the ring, fine bone, good feet. Eye-catching boy, but needs more coat to complete the picture.

OD (15, 1) 1. Lizamela Provocateur At Sharlarna. B/W of lovely type, beautiful head with well cushioned muzzle & lovely dark eyes giving a good expression. Well bodied & ribbed, presented in lovely coat & condition. Moved out soundly around the ring with an elegant head carriage, firm topline & well set on tail. He kept catching my eye on moving around the ring, so I was pleased to award him the DCC. 2. Ch Hysterical Samurai Sou At Sharlarna. An old favourite of mine, a lovely boy of excellent type. Well cushioned head, excellent eyes. Lovely size with short level back. Fine bone, hare feet, presented I lovely condition. Just moving a tad wide in front today so had to give way to a younger dog. 3. Holmchin Secret Affair With Rakuchin. Dog of nice size, well made with fine bone. Typical head with round surprised eye. Presented in good coat & condition, moved out well around the ring. 

GCD (5) 1. Nisyros Frank Chinatra.  Placed 3rd in veteran. 2. Shardlow Mikado. Nice sized dog, fine bone. Well presented in lovely clean condition, moved out well around the ring. Temperament not as good as 1. 3. Myojo Morgan At Glendyke. Heavier marked boy of nice size, pleasing head with dark eyes & well cushioned muzzle.  

VB (6, 1.) 1. Multi Ch. Roseheaven's Fujin Wvw17. 10 yr old still moves extremely well. Good head with large surprised eyes. Fine bone, good feet, carried herself well on the move with a firm topline and well set tail. Presented & handled well. 2. Ch Stepheter Wanna Shout For Rakuchin. Another nice girl aged 9. Very sound movement, well presented in excellent condition. Pleasing head with surprised expression, not as good in eye as 1. 3. Ch Asmena Tinkerbell At Aldoricka. 7 yr old of nice size. Good head with well cushioned muzzle, moved out well around the ring, but moving a little wide in front today. 

MPB (2, 1) 1. Linjato Mimoko. Very pretty b/w of nice type. Nice head with good eye and well cushioned muzzle. Very well presented in soft silky coat. Moved well both ways. Promising puppy. 

PB (4).  1. Choya Sakurako. B/w of lovely type. Typical head with nice eyes giving a good expression. A sound mover who carried her head well, level topline and well set tail. Fine bone, presented well in good condition, cheeky happy temperament. Best Puppy. 2. Arranbrook Hastobe At Mitapip. Another pretty b/w pup. Lovely eye and head, good cushioning to muzzle. Fine bone, moved out well, a tad longer in back than 1. 3. Sharlarna Catwalk. Small pretty b/w. nice type of head with lovely eyes and cushioned muzzle. Fine bone with hare feet. Movement a bit erratic, her handler could do with slowing down a little!

  JB  (12) Very good class, the 5 placed are all very nice examples of the breed. 1. Aleemai Walk This Way. This little bitch caught my eye straight away on my first look around the class. I thought to myself that is going to take some beating and I was right. She didn't disappoint when I went over her on the table. Beautiful "Japanese" type. Lovely typical head with wonderful astonished eyes. Well cushioned muzzle. Strong slender bone, hare feet, moved very soundly both ways with a level topline & well placed tail. Presented in good clean condition and well handled by her young handler. My eye kept going to her again and again. I was pleased to award her her first CC & BOB. She represented the breed well in the big ring. Well done. 2. Dalehouse Kimono. Another bitch of lovely type, beautiful head with lovely expression, her eye not quite as big as 1. Well presented in full coat. Another good mover who carried herself well around the ring. 3. Yama Here Comes Kitty. Repeating myself, but another bitch of lovely type. Beautiful head and eye, fine bone. Went well around the ring. Not as firm in topline as 1 & 2. 

YB (8) 1. Wyndcatch Constance. B/W with good ribs and cobby body. A sound mover both ways. Presented in good condition with a soft silky coat. Good head with well cushioned muzzle. Good round dark eyes with correct look. Slender bone & hare feet. 2. Dabrives Fields Of Silver. Pretty headed bitch with nice eye with correct surprised look. A smart mover who went well around the ring holding a firm topline and well set tail. 3. Anjuli Beryl. Excellent mover who holds herself well going around the ring. Well presented in full coat. Firm level topline, fine bone, hare feel. Pleasing head with good eyes but I would like a more open muzzle.  

PGB (12, 1abs) 1.    Sleepyhollow Good As Gold For Holmchin. Lovely R/W of good colour, small and dainty with fine bone. Lovely head with dark surprised eyes. Moved out well in all directions. Presented in lovely coat and condition. 2. Arranbrook Imperial Dancer At Mitapip. Larger bitch of nice type. Full head with well cushioned muzzle and good eyes. Fine bone with hare feet. Well bodied, presented in good coat. Moved soundly. 3. Cranvarl Le Mistrall Jw. Dainty bitch with fine bone, good feet. A sound mover. Pleasing head with round eye, I would prefer a bit more of an astonished look. LB (11, 1) 1. Shardlow Yum Yum. Sweet tempered b/w. pleasing head with dark eyes, well cushioned muzzle. Profuse coat in good condition, fine bone, hare feet. Moderate neck, cobby body with good chest, well set tail, carried herself well around the ring.  2. Dalehouse Iponema. Well-presented b/w in full coat of good silky texture. Broad skull with good dark eyes, good expression. A sound happy mover with a good cobby body and nice outline. Slightly larger in type than 1. 

3. Sleepyhollow Calamity Jane. Lovely sized b/w bitch of good type. Pleasing head carried well on a good sized cobby body. Slender bone, hare feet. Moved out soundly both ways, such a shame she has lost an eye. 

OB (14, 2)  Five lovely bitches placed. 1. Ch Choya Charlotte. B/w, very "Japanese" in type. Pretty head with lovely cushioning, good pigment & dark surprised eyes. Short cobby body with good spring of rib, short level back & well carried tail. Strong fine bone, slender feet, held an excellent topline standing and moving. I was pleased to award her RCC. 2. Ch Sleepyhollow Miss Bussell. Cobby b/w with lovely typical head, excellent cushioning & large eyes. Presented in full coat of lovely texture. Moved out well around the ring showing off her wonderful sound movement. 3. Sleepyhollow Mavis At Anjuli Jw. Good headed bitch with large astonished eyes of good colour. Handled to advantage showing off her good movement. Strong slender bone, correct feet. Presented in good coat and condition.

GC (1).  1.    Sharlarna Miss Fame At Harlouville Jw. Smart moving bitch with pretty head & good eye. Lovely silky coat, fine bone, went around the ring holding a firm topline. Just moving a little wide in front on the day.
