The Scottish Kennel Club 2015

29th August 2015

Judge: Mrs L M Gillhespy (Lorphil)

Thank you to the officers & committee of SKC for giving me the opportunity to judge Japanese Chins at this level for the first time. It was a privilege to judge at such a well organised show where the hospitality was first class & the dogs beautifully presented. All my winners were well within the breed Standard for size & full of breed type. My only concern both as an owner of this wonderful breed & as a judge is that there were some dogs & bitches that did not have the compactness of body nor the desired width of chest as required in the breed Standard. There were also a few that appeared tall & leggy with not sufficient turn of stifle.

Thank you to my stewards, for keeping the ring in good order.

PD (7) 1 Ratter’s Thistletop Dick Dastardley at Seafar, a 10 months, well balanced pup whose stunning outline could not be overlooked. He stands foursquare at all times & when looking at him in side profile you see a moderate length of neck, well laid back shoulders, level topline & wagging tailset on high & carried correctly. He has a most attractive head, dark eyes & small neat ears. His coat is silky in texture & already has good length to it. He has well turned stifles. His movement was a joy to watch; 2 Goldie’s Godheim Stars And Stripes, another very attractive pup whose movement was quite exceptional for his age. Again a lovely size & with a long, silky coat; 3 Banks’ Choya Alfie Boe. JD (4) 1 Farmer’s Sangria Lord Of The Dance, small in stature & a well constructed, young dog with a cobby, compact body, level topline & very well set tail A super head, with the correct expression, rounded in front & between the ears & with the makings of a fine, silky coat. He moved very well indeed both ways; 2 Matches’ Godheim Little Rock at Fochai, lovely type of dog, who was confident on the move, with a compact body shape & appeared well balanced. He has the desired expression with rounded skull & small neat ears; 3 Hazelhurst’s Ellshimmer Rigel. PGD (8,4a) 1 Farmer’s Sangria Riverdancer, this kennel has produced some beautiful Chins over the years & this boy was no exception; Most attractive head, rounded skull, dark eyes set well apart & with a real look of astonishment, correct muzzle wide & well cushioned. Fine bone & with hare feet. Moved with drive both ways; 2 Robinson’s Midorchi Magnum, very attractive dog so sound on the move. Square in body shape with a good width of chest; 3 Allcock, Lindsay & Pipe’s Sleepyhollow Baroque at Anjuli. LD (6,2) 1 Burden’s Sangria Amadeus, again a lovely size & type of dog, so sound on the move, most attractive head with excellent expression. Level topline, really cobby body & very good rear construction. Extremely well presented coat; 2 Ratter’s Shantallah Haruto at Seafar, this is another very nice type of dog. Well constructed & looks good in profile. His eyes are dark, head has such a handsome expression, sufficient reach of neck, with well developed shoulders. Positive driving action from behind; 3 Leach’s Queenslake Access Denied for Ouzlewell. OD (8,3) 1 Davidson’s Ch Hysterical Samurai Sou at Sharlarna, most beautifully presented dog that is just so exciting to go over. Every part of him falls into the correct place. Extremely attractive head, rounded skull, dark eyes set well apart & with a real look of astonishment, correct muzzle, wide & well cushioned. Ample reach of neck leading into level topline, & well turned stifles. His coat preparation was exemplary & his skilled handler got the very best from him. His elegant, stylish movement had good reach & elevation & was sound both ways. He has the desired good width to his chest & is a true showman & well deserved the CC, BOB; 2 Banks’ Choya Kiosha, another very lovely type of dog, with a most attractive expression. Whilst a lot younger than the winner he is another exciting prospect. Good width to his body, correct neck & shoulder placement, level topline & tailset. Fine & dainty with straight front movement. Just preferred the rear movement of 1. RCC; 3 Davidson’s Rus Ch Hin Satori Yoko Zolotoy Sneg at Sharlarna. VD (2,1) 1 Bailey’s Pochinka Edward Bear at Aldoricka, b/w dog in fabulous coat. He is a lovely size with fine bone, level topline & charming expression. BV.

PB (7,2) 1 Lyndsey & Pipe’s Sleepyhollow Mavis to Anjuli, a very pretty bitch that excels in showmanship & was so well handled to get the very best out of her. Good body shape, level topline & very positive movement. BP; 2 Matches’ Godheim Charlotte at Fochai, an extrovert young lady of lovely breed type. Her silky coat was beautifully prepared. She moved well both ways, holding a level topline; 3 Thomas’ Nisyros Nancy Chinatra. JB (5,2) 1 Robinson’s Midorchi Make Believe, I liked this young bitch a lot, shows real quality in construction, just oozes breed type & femininity. Super movement both ways; 2 Burden’s Sangria Celebration of Sheonagh, a dainty bitch of good breed type, particularly lovely head & excellent expression Well developed neck & shoulders, level topline, fine bone & hare feet; 3 Burden’s Sangria Etian of Sheonagh. PGB (4,1) 1 Allitt’s Tillashby Kimika, a most attractive bitch, pretty expression. Well constructed Square body, good straight front with ample sprig of rib, fine bone & very sound on the move; 2 Swanston’s Sangria Showtime of Pamojill, lovely type, with a beautifully rounded skull, ample neck with well developed shoulders, level topline & good depth to the body. Just a touch larger than 1; 3 Hamilton’s Tianshih Fun In The Sun of Kingsglen. LB (4) 1 Banks’ Linjato Khaleesa of Choya, this little bitch is of excellent breed type, super body shape & size. Pretty head & expression & in excellent coat. Moved soundly both ways. RCC; 2 Davidson’s Sharlarna Koyuki, another bitch that was extremely smart on the move, holding a level topline. Although I would have preferred slightly more length of leg to balance outline; 3 Crane’s Sidlyn Wind Of Change with Cranvaarl. OB (5,4) 1 Bailey’s Asmena Tinkerbell at Aldoricka, this bitch is so lovely to go over on the table where every part of her fits neatly into a mature body. Her head & expression are delightful, small ears set wide apart & with the desired look of astonishment. She has a profuse, long, silky coat that flows as she moves. She is not exaggerated in any way & it gave me great pleasure to award her the CC. VB (1) 1 Burdon’s Sangria Shakira of Sheoagh, an attractive 8 year old in good coat, moved very well.
