Driffield Agricultural Society 2016

Judge Mrs J Thomas

Firstly, thank you to everyone that took the time and trouble to show under me.

It was certainly a day of a lot of hard decisions.   Overall I found the movement on the chins to be really

poor.   Many of the exhibits coming towards me were crossing at the front so badly I am surprised

that one or two did not trip themselves up, and the rear movement in a lot was not much better.

The bitches faired slightly better than the dogs in this department.  It meant that quite a few

exhibits that I liked and would loved to have placed had to be sent down the line.

No one is asking for perfection but my word some work needs to be done to improve the movement

of the breed, you have to look further than just a pretty head, without good movement

everything will just fall apart.   Another surprising thing was the amount of tongues I saw,

the majority of Chins do seem to be a bit weak in the lower jaw, hence the tipping tongues.

I have not singled out any dogs with these problems in my critiques

The following is my critique of the exhibits on the DAY, places could change another time.

1st: Miss M J MOSS Ouzlewell Peter Pan of Delphlands.

This was a nice looking puppy, his outline was short and square, his topline was level, I would have liked just

a little more neck.  His head was a good size with large round eyes, showing white of eye.  He was well coated

for his age, confident on the move.   BP

2nd: Miss J MATCHES Denis Goscinska Przystan At Fochai

A red sable boy.  This puppy also had a very square looking outline, he was a little longer in the leg than one.

Slightly stronger in the muzzle, plenty of cushioning which should fill out as he gets older.

A very male looking head, with nice large round eyes showing white.  He moved well.

3rd: Mr G FARMER Sangria War Lord

1st: Ms P MARTIN Sharlarna Just The Ticket.

This is a lovely small square looking boy, a level topline with a good length of neck.  He had a full nice flowing

coat, quite glamorous.  A large head with good markings and long ear furnishings.  He has a sweet expression,

his head has lots of type, with a nice large eye.  His movement was ok.

2nd: Mr & Mrs J BASING Arranbrook Mint Imperial

Another nice boy, slightly larger, just at the moment he was no near as advanced in coat as no 1.

A nice head with lovely markings, well furnished ears, good dark eye.  Square outline.  I feel when this boy

comes into his full coat he will be a very attractive dog, and is certainly one to watch for the future.

Movement was good.

1st: Miss J MATCHES Godheim Stars And Stripes At Fochai

A super little boy so short and compact in the body with a good square outline, and high tail set.

He had a level topline with a good reach of neck.  His head was large, broad, and nicely marked.

Well furnished ears.  Large round eyes showing white in the corners.  Would like a slightly stronger chin.

His coat was good but not fully in yet.  RDCC

2nd: Ms T PEARCE, & Ms S HANN Rakuchin Kenji Na

Unlucky to meet each other these two, as both boys were attractive exhibits, although slightly larger than 1,

he also had the same lovely qualities, short, square, lovely well marked head with large round eyes

showing white.  A good reach of neck flowing onto a level topline, with a good tail set.  Moved well.

3rd: Ms P MARTIN Lizamela Provocateur At Sharlarna

1st: Mr G FARMER Sangria Riverdancer

An attractive boy, he has all the requirements needed to fit the standard.  A very typical head with large eyes,

showing white, lovely panda markings, a rounded head with good ear placement.  His head was proudly carried on

a good reach of neck which flowed onto a level topline finishing with a high tail set that was plumbed over the back.

His hindquarters have a nice turn of stifle.  The movement on this dog was good.  His coat is not fully in yet.  Although

Ok in the breed ring, he did find the group ring a little daunting, and just needs to gain in confidence. DCC & BOB

2nd: Ms D HEGARTY, & Mr G MERRITT Sharlarns Hasime

Quite a nice looking boy.  A good head with large eyes and lovely cushioning, well furnished ears.

Slightly long on the leg.

3rd: Mrs M WILLIAMSON Tillashby Kane At Kalamta

1st: Mr D HUBBLE Dabrives Silver Chalice

Another short square looking exhibit.  He had a large head, that was nicely marked, with good ear furnishings,

his eyes were round and showing white.  Good cushioning.  A good reach of neck on a level topline.

His coat is coming in.  He moved well.

2nd: Mrs J E MCLEOD Dunline Oh What A Night Sh.CM

I like this boy he is attractive and elegant, a lovely size, very confident and handled well, always beautifully presented

in a lovely coat, unfortunately he had been having a little nibble at the hair of his front feet which held him back,

this was such a shame.  He moves really well.  Lots of things to like about this dog.

3rd:  Mr & Mrs BLOW & ALLEN Wyndcatch Take It Easy

OD (6 Entries) Abs: 2
1st: Mr G FARMER Sangria Lord Of The Dance

Another nice short square exhibit from this kennel.  A good large head with big round eyes showing the required white

in the corners, giving that look of astonishment, I just felt he was a little heavy in the muzzle.

In moderate coat.  He moved well.  Preferred his stable companion for top honours.

2nd: Mr A W DAVIDSON Ch Hysterical Samurai Sou At Sharlarna

This is a nice dog that was just slightly larger than 1, he was in a good coat with long ear and tail furnishings.

A nice head, not quite as large and expressive eye as 1.  He moved well around the ring.

3rd:  Ms T PEARCE, & Ms S HANN Holmchin Secret Affair With Rakuchin

1st: Mr A W DAVIDSON Utsukushi Lady Montserrat At Sharlarna

What a whirlwind this little girl was, she was so busy taking in everything that was going on she didn’t have

time to concentrate on showing.  Just six months she is very raw but oh so pretty, very square in outline, level topline,

nice reach of neck, a good tail set, she had a very attractive head with nice eyes.  On the move when she calmed

down she seemed to go well.  Full of promise, so fingers crossed.  BPB

2nd: Mrs S & Mr M LEACH Omikudzi Argentina

A nice rich red sable, a nice head with good eyes.  Slightly tall on the leg, level topline and good reach of neck.

she was not happy on the day, so hard to assess, just needs a bit more confidence.

A nice looking girl that was very well presented.  Feminine head, would have liked a slightly larger eye.

Good neck, level topline, nice tail set.  Confident.  Moved ok.

2nd: Mrs S L MOWATT Vouges Roiyaru Tsudzuki To Asmena Imp Swe

Another nice exhibit, these two girls could easily change places.  A very lively and confident girl, she had a lovely outline

level topline, with a good reach of neck.  A pretty well marked head.  Would have liked a bit more white in the eye.

3rd:  Mr G FARMER Sangria Faberg'e

A really pretty red/sable girl.  A super shape, nice and square with a level topline, a good tail set, nice reach of neck,

topped with a very feminine head, good cushioning, and well furnished ears.  Large eyes.  Confident on the move.  RBCC

2nd: Ms R BANKS Choya Charlotte

Another very pretty feminine girl.  She is a good shape and size, her level topline gives way to a nice neck and a

well marked head.  Well presented and confident.  Moved ok.

A nice girl, lovely size, very attractive.  Beautifully presented, she is just coming into a good coat.  A pretty head

that was well marked, well furnished ears, nice eye showing white.  Square outline.  Very good on the move.

2nd: Mr & Mrs J BASING Arranbrook Frangipanni

Another red/sable, this girl was slightly larger than the winner but still a nice size.  A  little bereft of coat at the moment,

she is a pretty dual purpose girl.  Nice head, well marked, good neck and topline. Moved ok.

3rd:  Mrs M CONSTABLE Arranbrook Imperial Dancer At Mitapip

PGB (5 Entries) Abs: 1

This little girl has a very attractive oriental looking head, which is well marked with good large round eyes.

A  good square outline, short in the loin, and nice size, she is just starting to come into coat.  Well presented.

Confident.  Moves ok.

2nd: Mr R & Mrs L A KILCOYNE Granasil Love Story

Another nice girl that was small and dainty, she was in a lovely coat, with super furnishings which was well presented.

Her back was level with a good neck.  She moved well around the ring.  Just preferred the more oriental head type of 1.

These two girls could easily swap places, both quality bitches.

3rd:  Mr & Mrs I & L BURDEN Sangria Celebration Of Sheonagh

LB (8 Entries) Abs: 0

This had to be the best class of the day, and the hardest to judge as all the exhibits were full of quality.

1st: Miss L LINDSAY, & Mrs C L PIPE Sleepyhollow Mavis At Anjuli JW

A very pretty bitch that was in a full coat, with super furnishings on her ears and tail.  Always a tough one showing

females, one minute they look great and then suddenly it all disappears.  She has a lovely large head with big

round eyes showing white, very nice cushioning with a good under jaw, this gives the correct finish to the face.

Good in profile with a straight back and good reach of neck.  Today she was confident and moved well around the ring.

2nd: Mr D HUBBLE Dabrives Silver Surprise

This was another really lovely girl, I liked her and it was hard to choose between 1st and 2nd.  She had all the right

Attributes.  Small, nice head, well coated, great outline, she moved well.  Really nicely shown in super condition.

3rd:  Ms T PEARCE, & Ms S HANN Yama Moonlight Over Rakuchin

OB (5 Entries) Abs: 1

A nice looking girl, good broad head, well marked, no white showing with eyes.  Lovely ear furnishings, nice coat,

well presented. Good outline, short in the loin, moved well.

2nd: Ms T PEARCE, & Ms S HANN Stepheter Wanna Shout For Rakuchin

For 8 years old this girl is a super exhibit, and still showing her head off, she moved well around the ring.

Very square in appearance, good topline and neck.  Nice head and eye, just felt she was a little heavy around the muzzle.

Her winter coat is just coming in.
